Four Ways To Restore Your Smile

In a perfect world, you would never get a cavity, no one would ever chip a tooth, and everyone would keep all of their teeth for their entire lives.

At Ascension Premier Dental, we know that neither we nor our patients don’t live in that world.

We live in a world where tooth decay affects more than 90 percent of Americans at some point in their lives. We live in a world where accidents happen and people damage their teeth. And we live in a world where untreated gum disease and injuries cause people to lose their teeth.

This is why we offer a range of restorative services to help anyone who visits our dentist office in Geismar, LA.

We hope you never need these services, but we will be describing four ways they may benefit you if you should need them either now or in the future.

A Quick Comment On Preventive Care

Before we get into our restorative treatments, we need to mention the importance of preventive care. There is no 100 percent proven way to prevent all potential problems, but following these steps can help a great deal.

Brushing your teeth twice per day for two minutes each time. Use toothpaste with fluoride and a soft-bristled toothbrush to scrub your teeth on all sides, and brush your tongue when you are finished.

Floss daily. Brushing doesn’t clean between your teeth or between your teeth and gums. Using dental floss or another interdental cleaner will can remove bacteria and plaque from those places.

Visit Ascension Premier Dental twice a year for cleanings and examinations. During your visits, we will remove plaque and tartar buildup, and we will check for symptoms of tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health problems.

And if you participate in high-impact sports and activities, always wear an athletic mouthguard during practices and games. The best protection comes from custom-fitted mouthguards, but any mouthguard is better than nothing.

4 Ways To Restore Your Smile

We have explained the steps you can take to reduce your risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and injuries to your teeth. Now, it’s time to explain what to do if those things do happen to you.

Here are four steps you can take to restore your smile.

➤ Treat decayed teeth

The treatment for this will depend on the how severe your decay is.

Minor decay can be treatment with our tooth-colored fillings. After removing the decay fro your tooth, we can fill the opening with a composite resin that matches the color of your teeth. This provides protection, and it hides where your cavity was.

For a large cavity, we would recommend a dental crown instead. For a crown, we can to remove more of your tooth to create room for the dental crown. When it’s bonded in place, you will regain the full use of your tooth and your smile will look the same (or maybe a little better).

➤ Fix worn down teeth

Wear and tear can affect your teeth depending on what you eat and other habits (nail-biting, using your teeth to open things). If the wear is minor and only affects a few teeth, we may recommend an inlay or overlay.

If the wear is spread across multiple teeth, you may want to consider veneers instead.

➤ Fix broken teeth

A broken tooth should be repaired as soon as possible. This can expose the tooth to tooth decay. A deep break could lead to a tooth infection.

A dental crown can be used to protect the tooth and to rebuild its original shape. If your tooth becomes infected, it may be necessary to complete a root canal treatment first to remove the infection. A dental crown can seal the tooth after this procedure.

➤ Replace missing teeth

We can help you replace a single tooth, a few teeth, or every tooth in your mouth.

For a single tooth replacement, we would recommend a dental crown placed on a dental implant. The implant replaces the root of your lost tooth and holds your dental crown firmly in place.

Dental implants also can be used to support a dental bridge if you need to replace two or more teeth. If you do find yourself in need of replacing one or both rows of your teeth, then we would suggest implant-supported dentures.

By strategically placing, implants in your mouth, we can add stability to your dentures along with re-creating a complete and natural-looking smile.
