Six Months To Your New, Straight SmileSeptember 1st, 2016
You could accomplish a lot of things in six months if you put your mind to it.
You could learn to play a musical instrument. You could build something. You could learn organizational skills.
Or you could change the appearance of your smile with help from Ascension Premier Dental.
Our dentist office in Geismar, LA, offers Powerprox Six Month Braces™ for patients who want to improve their smiles in less time than it would take with traditional orthodontic treatment.
Today, we want to explain how you can change your smile and why it may be possible to do this in a fraction of the time it would take with other kinds of orthodontic care.
Imagine Yourself With A Different Smile
Perfect teeth don’t normally happen naturally.
That’s why every year millions of people get braces to make their teeth straight and evenly spaced. It’s also becoming more and more common for adults to go through orthodontic care.
Newer treatments, like Powerprox Six Month Braces, have made this more convenient and more efficient than ever before.
Let’s consider what could happen by next April if you get started soon on your orthodontic care.
Your crooked smile could look straight.
Your crowded teeth could be more evenly spaced.
The gaps between your teeth could be closed.
Think about the pictures you’ve seen in celebrity magazines, on movie screens, and at home on your television. You could have a smile like that, too, with just a little time and help from our dentist, Dr. Bessonet.
How Six Month Braces Work
Six Month Braces use the same tools as traditional braces.
You will have brackets bonded to your teeth, and you will have an archwire that connects the brackets together. These are the mechanism which will get your teeth moving.
The difference is that we are putting them to use in a slightly different way than how they are used with traditional braces.
Six Month Braces are part of cosmetic dentistry. These will not adjust your teeth to address bite issues.
What they will do is improve the aesthetic appeal of your smile. Our wire used in Six Month Braces has been described as having “shape memory.”
This means that the wire will return to its original shape after it has been connected to your brackets. As the wire returns to its natural shape, it will move your teeth and, thus, change your smile at the same time.
The emphasis on the cosmetic improvements to your smile is why Six Month Braces are possible.
Traditional braces are used to improve the appearance of your smile as well as your bite. Because this is a more complicated process, it can take two years or more to change your smile with traditional braces.
Are Six Month Braces Right For You?
This will depend on multiple factors. To help you decide, we would recommend scheduling a consultation with our dentist.
He can talk to you about your goals and examine your teeth to help determine if you are a good candidate for this treatment.
One of them is what you want to do. If your primary goal is to make your smile look nicer — by making your visible teeth look straighter and by creating more uniform spacing between your teeth — then Six Month Braces are something to consider.
If you are looking to make adjustments to your bite, then you may be better off with another kind of orthodontic treatment.
You also may want to consider visibility.
Traditional metal braces are not something you can hide. They can be distracting at times.
Six Month Braces may not be invisible, but they are considerably less noticeable than metal braces. Six Month Braces use ceramic brackets that closely match the color or your teeth, and they use a tooth-colored wire, which helps them to blend in with your smile.
At the end of your treatment, you will need to wear a retainer for a short time. This is something you need to do at the end of any orthodontic treatment.
The reason is your teeth may want to drift back toward their original positions. A retainer will help you mouth adapt to having your teeth in their new, straight positions.
