In the end, you may decide that metal braces are the right option for you, but it’s also good to know your options. Knowing that you have made the right decision for you will make it easier to follow through on your treatment.

Why Straight Teeth Are Good For You

For many people, having straight teeth is an important part of having a nice smile.

In our society, it’s true that we find straight teeth more attractive, but that’s not the only reason to fix your crooked teeth.

Surveys have shown that people with nice smiles are considered friendlier and more trustworthy. This could help you in both social and professional situations.

It’s also true that people feel more confident when they like their smiles. If you have crooked teeth, crowded teeth, or teeth with gaps between them, you may feel self-conscious when meeting new people.

From a dental perspective, there is still another reason to straighten your teeth. It’s easier to keep them clean and to remove the bacteria and plaque that can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.

When your teeth are straight, you won’t have spaces that you can’t brush because your teeth overlap each other or that you can’t floss because your teeth are pressed too close together.

How To Straighten Your Teeth

Once upon a time, traditional braces may have been your only option for straightening your teeth. Today, we can help in a variety of ways. Here are options that are available to patients at our practice:

◼︎ Invisalign — You may have heard Invisalign referred to as “clear braces” or “invisible braces.” In truth, this system does not use any brackets or wires.

With Invisalign, you will receive a series of plastic aligners. The aligners are designed with  the help of a computer program so the each one gently pushes your teeth a little closer to being straight.

One of the main benefits of Invisalign is that the aligners are clear. When you have them on your teeth, most people won’t know that you are wearing them. If you want to be discreet about your orthodontic care, this is the most discreet option we offer.

◼︎ PowerProx Six Month Braces — If your primary goal is to improve the appearance of your smile in the shorter time, then this may be the option for you.

Our Six Month Braces use hi-tech nickel titanium arch wires and use low pressure to move teeth more efficiently to create a straight and beautiful smile. As the name suggests, most patients are able to complete with treatment in six months, compared to the two years needed for more traditional orthodontic care.

◼︎ Metal braces — As we said before, you may decide that the tried-and-true techniques of brackets, wires, and ligatures are the best way to straighten your teeth.

the brackets are attached to your teeth, and the archwire helps to guide the movement of your teeth. Some patients also use small rubber bands to assist with the movement of their teeth.

Braces work by moving your teeth in two stages. During the first stage, the braces move the crowns of your teeth. In the second stage, braces move the roots of your teeth. Each stage takes about a year, but in the end, you will have a visibly straighter smile.

◼︎ Ceramic braces — These work with the same principles as metal braces. The difference is that the brackets are ceramic, which makes them less noticeable than metal brackets.

For some patients, this is an important difference.
