3 Ways To Prevent Oral Health Problems [BLOG]May 28, 2019
Ascension Premier Dental is dedicated to helping patients achieve a healthy smile. Dr. Bessonet and our highly-trained team of professionals do all we can to give you high quality dental service for your best oral health.
But you are a big part of that effort. Treating oral health problems, or preventing them before they start, requires us to work together. That’s why we’re spending today’s blog talking about how we can do that.
A healthy smile is all about prevention. By creating good oral hygiene habits and making regular visits to our Geismar dental office, you’re already ahead of the game! This would be a great time to give us a call and schedule an appointment with Dr. Bessonet for your regular dental checkup.
In the meantime, take a look at three easy ways to prevent oral health problems!
Brush Your Teeth!
Brushing your teeth every single day is one of the most essential parts of preventing oral health problems. You should use a soft bristle toothbrush and a toothpaste that contains fluoride, according to the American Dental Association (ADA).
The ADA also recommends that you should brush twice each day, so including this habit as part of your morning and nightly routine makes this task very easy!
Your brushing technique is equally important. According to the ADA, two minutes is the ideal time to spend brushing your teeth in order to clean them adequately. That’s only four minutes total out of a 24 hour day! Who can’t spare that for the sake of your smile?
Don’t Forget To Floss!
Only one in five Americans claim to floss at least once every single day. Flossing once a day is the ADA’s recommendation because there are places in between your teeth and around the gumline that the best brush and technique just can’t reach.
So to remove food that gets stuck there after a meal, and to prevent plaque and tartar buildup, you really need to make flossing a part of your daily routine.
- Take Advantage Of Preventive Dental Care
Prevention may start with you, but it certainly doesn’t end with you! Dr. Bessonet and our team at Ascension Premier Dental is always here to help you!
We start by recommending you visit us at least two times a year for regular dental cleanings and exams. Our experienced hygienists and our highly-trained dentist, Dr. Bessonet, have the professional equipment and the skills to spot dental problems early and to treat them before they become bigger issues down the road.
You should also take advantage of some of our preventive dental services, too! To prevent things like cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease, we offer treatments and services such as:
-Dry Mouth Treatment
The next time you call us to schedule an appointment, be sure to ask us which of these preventive measures is right for you and your lifestyle. Remember, prevention is about working together to help you achieve a healthy mouth.
That means we need to keep the lines of communication open so that you feel comfortable sharing with us your cares and concerns about your dental treatment.
Make An Appointment For Comfortable Dental Care!
If you’ve let fear keep you from the dentist, and as a result, weren’t able to prevent dental problems, we want to encourage you to let us help you overcome those fears. We are one of the few dental offices in the area that offer IV sedation, which is the highest level of sedation available for patients who are particularly scared of seeing a dentist.
Dr. Bessonet has extensive training and experience in administering sedation so that you have the most relaxing, comfortable dental visit possible!
