General dentistry treatment in our office, I think that that entails treating the whole mouth. There's different problems that people have with their mouths that require different levels of treatment or different kinds of treatment. It could be anything from a small cavity that requires a white bonded filling to a cracked tooth that has just been hurting someone for a long time and it may require a crown probably to a root canal or even removing the tooth or replacing it with a dental implant.
I think when you talk about general dentistry, to me it means treating the whole mouth and all problems that come with it.

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD)
Yeah, we have a lot of patients that grind their teeth, that clench their teeth. A lot of these patients don't realize they're doing it. We can tell by looking at the teeth and looking at the wear patterns and sometimes looking at the muscles in the face and that they're actually doing it. A lot of these patients suffer from migraines. They suffer from jaw aches. They have a lot of chronic pain and a lot of them don't realize where the source is. The source is the temporomandibular joint in conjunction with the muscles in the face. Basically it comes from overworking those muscles. They're using these muscles throughout the day. They're also using them all night long by clenching and grinding.
It's just like taking a dumbbell and working your arm all night long, waking up and then using it for work. It's never resting so it's in a chronic state of fatigue. Of course it's going to hurt. For people like that, 90% of those people it's very simple. We make them a splint, a perfectly made splint that balances their bite in the right way to allow those muscles to relax at night. They wake up feeling more refreshed and their headaches go away. Most of them can't believe they waited so long to have this done.
Is your jaw sore? Do your hear a clicking sound when you move it? Do you suffer from headaches or migraines? You may be suffering from symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder. We call it TMD for short, though you may have heard it referred to as TMJ (temporomandibular joint — the name of the jaw joint). This disorder is often confused with other ailments. Dr. Bessonet will diagnose you and develop a treatment plan to take care of your issue.
