Patients who have dental anxiety, we see a lot of those. That's something that I really pride myself on. I've taken a lot of continuing education through the years, had a lot of training with sedation. We're one of the few practices in the country really that offer IV sedation in a general dental office.
The reason I've incorporated that into my practice is I saw that there were so many patients who needed a lot of work done who had neglected their mouths for so many years just out of fear of getting the work done. I noticed this trend early in my career and that's when I began my journey on training for sedation and I started with nitrous oxide and went to oral sedation which is just using pills and now for the last 7 years, we've done IV sedation. IV sedation is something that we can offer patients to where we can pretty much guarantee that they'll have a good experience and they won't remember even being at the office.
If a patient due to time constraints or anxiety or whatever reason it is, if they have a lot of work that needs to be done that they've been meaning to do for a long time and put off, we can get them in. A lot of times, we can bring these patients in, we can IV sedate them, we complete all of their work in 1 visit.
The good thing about that is they wake up and it's done and they have no recollection of any of the work being done or even being at the office. I think that says a lot for people who have anxiety and fear just walking through these doors.
Dental fear and dental anxiety is something our team deals with on a regular basis. If you experience feelings of nervousness or even fear, you are certainly not alone. Fortunately, Ascension Premier Dental offers a variety of dental options that can help relieve your dental anxiety and help you feel at home. Let’s talk about dental sedation, our excellent staff, and other ways we can help you stay relaxed and comfortable throughout your visit.
We are proud to say that we offer three levels of dental sedation right here in our Geismar, LA dental office! If you find yourself needing help to feel at ease during a visit to our office, we are here for you.
Nitrous Oxide Dental Sedation. This is our lowest level of sedation and is suited for nervous patients of all ages! If you need just a little bit of help relaxing during your appointment, “laughing gas” may be a wonderful solution. Talk to our team if you would like to use nitrous oxide sedation during your next visit.
Oral Conscious Dental Sedation. Our mid-level form of sedation is called oral conscious sedation because it allows you to maintain consciousness throughout the procedure. You may remember much of the procedure, but you will feel very relaxed and possibly groggy throughout. The medication is taken orally before you come in for your appointment and will require you to be driven to and from the office by a friend or family member.
Oral conscious sedation is great for patients who need quite a bit of help relaxing for their treatment. If you are nervous about your appointment, talk to our team about oral conscious sedation.
IV Dental Sedation. We are the only dental health care provider in the area that offers IV sedation. This form of sedation requires specialized training and licensing to administer. Our team has undergone the training and certification required to safely supervise the use of IV dental sedation. We can help you get the care you need and keep you completely comfortable at the same time.
IV sedation is our heaviest form of sedation and is designed to create a sleep-like state. When you choose IV sedation, you will still be able to respond to our team during the procedure, but you will not remember it. You will wake up without memory of the sights, smells, sounds, or sensations associated with your treatment.
This level of sedation is ideal for patients who are very fearful or anxious about visiting the dentist, or for those undergoing long or complicated procedures. If you are interested in using IV sedation for your next procedure, please speak to a member of our team to determine if this is a good option for you.
